Before your SMP appointment

1–2 Weeks Before

  • Avoid sunburns or tanning – keep your scalp protected, as sun-damaged skin cannot be treated.
  • Do not shave your scalp too closely – leave at least 1–2 days’ hair growth before the session so your artist can assess your natural hair pattern.
  • Check medications – let your artist know if you are on blood thinners, acne medications (e.g. isotretinoin/Accutane), or other skin-sensitive treatments.
  • Stop harsh scalp treatments – avoid chemical peels, strong exfoliants, or retinol on the scalp.

48 Hours Before

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and recreational drugs – these can thin your blood and affect healing.
  • Do not dye or chemically treat your hair/scalp before the appointment.

24 Hours Before

  • Avoid Aspirin or Ibuprofen (unless prescribed by a doctor) – they can thin the blood.
  • Hydrate well – drink plenty of water.
  • Wash your hair/scalp thoroughly – arrive with a clean scalp, free of oils, products, or moisturizers.
  • Eat a good meal before your session – to help you stay comfortable and maintain steady blood sugar.

Day of the Procedure

  • Wear comfortable clothing (dark top if possible, in case of pigment transfer).
  • Avoid applying any creams, oils, or sprays on your scalp. Arrive with a clean scalp.
